6,7 Sir Henry De Hoghton, Bart., was Sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1849. Contemporary newspaper articles gives his name as Henry Hoghton. It is not clear when the form 'de Hoghton' was adopted. He lived at Bold, Lancashire, England and between 1846 and 1857 at the Hafod Estate, Cardiganshire, Wales. In a court case held, Hoghton v. Wigney, on 3 Jan 1849, he was awarded damages of £3,000 in respect of the adultery of his wife in 1848. In his will of 9 Feb 1875 he bequeathed £10,000 upon trust to his daughter Eleanor Isabel de Hoghton. He directed that the usual shell inclosing his body may be inclosed in a leaden coffin weighing not less than seven pounds to the square foot.
