Francis William GOWAN was born ca. 1860. He and Susan STRONG were married on 21 Nov 1895 in St. Brigid’s Church of Ireland, Rosenallis, Co. Laois, IrelandG.² He died on 10 Feb 1928, at age ~68, in Killeenmore, King’s Co., Ireland.³

Francis William Gowan was the son of Frank Gowan, a farmer, and his wife Elizabeth. He was living at Killeagh at the time of his marriage in 1895. He was enumerated in the 1901 census, together with his wife and children, in the household of his mother Elizabeth at Killeenmore, Cappancur, King’s Co.

Sometime around 1905 the family started to spell their surname as Gowing. The children’s births were registered with that name, the family appear in the 1911 census as Gowing, and subsequent deaths have the name Gowing.^1,4
