William John Quinn was born ca. 1847 in Co. Armagh.1 He and Elizabeth Foster were married on 25 Jun 1874 in Ballyroan Parish Church, Queen’s County.2
He was the son of Robert Quinn, a Farmer. He served in the Royal Irish Constabulary, having joined aged 19 in 1866. His R.I.C. service number was 31315. He served in Cos. Queen’s, Roscommon and Mayo, and he was pensioned on 11 Apr 1892.

He was enumerated in the 1901 census at Old Chapel Road, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, and described as a widower, aged 53, Church of Ireland, R.I.C. Pensioner, born in Co. Armagh. In the same household were five sons: Richard (aged 23, Sheriff’s Bailiff), Thomas (20), Francis (18), James (16) and Joseph (14).
