William Pitt Bowler was the son of William Pitt Bowler of Whitestone, Tipperary, and Sarah Maria Abbott. He was living separately from his wife in 1850 at the instigation of her mother. He was imprisoned in 1858 for obtaining a Race Game under false pretences.^1,2

She was the daughter of Richard Standish d’Ouseley (1804-1886), formerly of H.M.C.S., and Mary Ann Dudley (1830-1901). She was an artist and first studied at the Penzance School of Art and Heatherleys. She was particularly well known for her landscapes of Belgium, Italy, and interiors of Cathedrals. One of her paintings is of Truro Cathedral, and belongs to the collection there.³
