Samuel DEVERELL was born on 29 Oct 1909 in Cloncourse, Co. Laois, IrelandG.1 He married Elsie Evelyn MEREDITH, daughter of Robert Samuel MEREDITH and Adelaide DEVERELL, on 6 Feb 1945 in Drumcondra ChurchG.2 Samuel DEVERELL died on 24 Sep 1968, at age 58, in BelfastG.3 He was buried on 26 Sep 1968 in St. Mary’s Church, Geashill, King’s Co., IrelandG.4,3
Samuel was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Deverell, Annagharvey, Tullamore. His obituary appeared in the Irish Times:
“The death has taken place of Mr. Samuel Deverell, of Annagharvey House, Tullamore, Offaly. Mr. Deverell was recognised as one of the best and most progressive farmers in the county, whose advice on all aspects of farming was eagerly sought and given freely. In the past, he was a frequent exhibitor of stock at agricultural shows. He was chairman of the North Offaly Co-Operative Society. He represented the Diocese of Kildare on the General Synod of the Church of Ireland. He was also a member of the Diocesan Synod and the Diocesan Council, and honorary secretary and treasurer of his parish, Geashill, for 36 years. Mr. Deverell is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.”.5

Biography

Thomas BATES was born ca. 1851 in Queen's Co., IrelandG. He married Anna Maria YOUNG on 16 Feb 1874 in Mountrath Church, Clonenagh Parish, Queen’s Co., Ireland, witnesses Benjamin Whittaker, Thomas Young.1 He died bef. 1911.
Thomas Bates was a described as a farmer at the time of his marriage in 1874, and later as a shopkeeper. In the 1901 census he was described as a retired leather and general merchant, living at Maryborough Road, Mountrath.

Samuel DEVERELL was born on 4 Apr 1825 in Leeds, EnglandG.1 He was baptised on 27 Sep 1829 in St Peters Church Leeds Yorkshire. He married Harriet COX on 1 Jan 1866 in Ballykean Church, King’s County, witnesses Thomas Matthews and Richard Cox.2 He died on 9 Mar 1908, at age 82, in Derrylough, Queens County, IrelandG.3
Samuel Deverell was a farmer reportedly aged 35 living at Coolavoran at the time of his marriage in 1866. He was enumerated in the 1901 Ireland census at Meelick in Queen’s County and described as Samuel Deverell, Head, Church of Ireland, can read & write, aged 75, Farmer, born in Leeds, England. Also enumerated were his wife Harriet Deverell (aged 64), sons Joseph Deverell (aged 32, Not Married) and Henry Deverell (27, Not Married), daughter Harriet Deverell (aged 27[?], Not Married), visitor Marion Huddy (aged 54, Widow) and a general servant Annie McEvoy (aged 27, Not Married).4
