Watkin Kyffin, of Glascoed

Biography

Watkin Kyffin, of Glascoed, and Catherine Edwards were married on 29 Sep 1633.1 He died in 1670.2 He was buried on 7 Jul 1670 in Llansilin.1
Watkin Kyffin was steward of Chirk Castle.

Fifth son, he matriculated at Jesus College, Oxford, on 11th December, 1652, and later entered the Middle Temple. His grandfather left him £ 100 to attend his studies." He was Sheriff of Denbighshire in 1662 and of Montgomeryshire in 1663. He [married Dorothy, daughter of Owen Holland of Berw in Anglesey, and]* had one son, Griffith Kyffin, and six daughters. The son, Griffith, died without issue in 1661, and his eldest sister, Margaret, who married Sir William Williams, conveyed Glascoed [Llansilin] and other property to the Wynnstay family.

*This is contradicted by several other sources who name his wife as Catherine Edwards daughter of John Edwards of Stansty.3

Arthur Kyffin died ca. 1692.
The will of Arthur Kyffin, then of Llanwithelan and formerly of Glascoed [Llansilin], dated 17th December, 1691, a copy of which is given in the Appendices, does not mention any wife or children, so presumably he had none. He left bequests to his brother, Griffith Kyffin, and his wife, Elizabeth, and to numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, but only one of these was named Kyffin, Mrs. Jane Kyffin. No mention is made of his brother Hugh and presumably he had died without issue.

John Meredith, of Gowres, was born ca. 1613. He was baptised on 6 Apr 1613 in Manafon, Montgomeryshire. He and Ann Kyffin were married. He died ca. 1681, at age ~68.
Denbighshire Archives have a record for John Meredith in Llanwyddelan in 1636:

His will was dated 13th (?) September 1680 and probate was granted on 13 Jul 1681.
It specified that he was to be buried in the churchyard of the parish of Manavon close to the wall.
It mentions:

- David Meredyth son
- Catherine Meredyth daughter
- John Meredyth of .… nephew
- Mrs .…Kyffin late wife of Mr John Kyffin
- Humphrey David
- John Meredyth of Ystrad to be the guardian of Anne during her minority
- said Anne Meredyth daughter of the said Rowland Meredyth sole executrix.1

Sir William Williams

Biography

Sir William Williams was born ca. 1633 in Nantanog, Llantrisant, Anglesey. He and Margaret Kyffin were married on 14 Apr 1664.1 He died on 10 Jul 1700, at age ~67, in Gray’s Inn, London. He was buried in Llansilin.
Speaker of the House of Commons and Solicitor-General to James II

He was the second son of Hugh Williams (c.1596–1670), rector of Llantrisant and later canon of Bangor and prebendary of St Asaph, and of Emma, the daughter of John Dolben of Caeau Gwynion near Denbigh.
