Rev. Charles Adkin Wright Girling

Rev. Charles Adkin Wright Girling was born on 11 Jul 1905.1 He was baptised on 12 Aug 1905 in Hankerton, Wiltshire.2 He and Audrey Battye Howard were married in 1934 in Surrey South Western Registration District. He died on 19 Oct 1963, at age 58, in Royal Cornwall Infirmary, Truro, Cornwall.3
His obituary appeared in the 24 October 1963 edition of the Cornish Guardian, transcribed as follows:
"The Rev. Charles A. W. Girling, until last year Rector of Lanreath, died at the Royal Cornwall Infirmary, Truro, on Saturday, after a long illness. He is survived by a widow, a daughter and three sons. Mr. Girling, who was made a deacon in 1931 and ordained a priest in 1932, was curate of Christ's Church, Clifton, Bristol, from 1931-32. He was assistant master at St. George's School, Jerusalem, from 1933 until 1934 when he became curate of Weston-Super-Mare. He remained there until 1937, leaving to be Rector of Eaton-Hastings. In 1940 he accepted the living at Lanreath and was Rector there until last year, when he retired because of ill health. Mr. Girling was actively associated with the Home Guard at Lanreath and acted as padre to the local unit. Keen on cricket, he had taken an interest in the Pelynt Cricket Club, of which he had been a vice-president. For many years he was chairman of the Village Hall War Memorial Committee and an active worker for it. He was also associated with the Men's Institute, which, when the new village hall became a reality was embodied into that building. He had also taken a keen interest in many other local organisations. His wife, during her time at Lanreath also took an active part in the social life of the village and is a founder member of Lanreath W.I. For some years Mr. and Mrs. Girling ran a preparatory school at the old Rectory, Lanreath. The funeral service was held at Lanreath Parish Church on Tuesday afternoon. The Bishop of Truro, the Rt. Rev. J. M. Key, was present and clergy from many parts of the diocese also attended Also at the service were representatives of many local organisations and residents of the village and district."
