Camille HIGGIN was born ca. 1859 in New Orleans, USAG.² She and William MEREDITH were married on 12 Nov 1879 in St. John’s Church, Monkstown, DublinG.³ She died on 22 Jul 1929, at age ~70, in Toronto General HopitalG.² She was buried on 24 Jul 1929 in St. John’s Cemetery.²

Camille Higgin was born in New Orleans, USA. She was living at 16 Tivoli Terrace E., Kingstown at the time of her marriage; an indenture made later that year refers to her as being from Liverpool, England, which was presumably her prior address in 1879. The 1911 census records her as being 50 years old and born in the USA; two of her three children were still living at that time. In August 1915 Camille was listed as the next of kin for her son, Herbert, on his enlistment in the Canadian armed forces. Her address then was 1 Grand Canal Quay, Dublin. She emigrated to Canada with her husband William in 1919.

Biography

Herbert Rice Baldwin MEREDITH was born on 6 May 1889 in Ballychristal, Geashill, Kings county, IrelandG.² He died on 1 Dec 1916, at age 27, in France.

He enlisted on the 26 Aug 1915 in Toronto, occupation given as Shipper. He joined the 13th Battalion as a Private with service no. 193334, and later the 92nd Battalion. He embarked from Canada on the ship Emperor of Britain on 20th June 1916, arriving in Britain 9 days later, and finally landed in France on 28 Aug 1916. According to his medical records, he was in hospital at Boulogne for 3 days from 25 Sept 1916 with a sprained ankle (sustained whilst acting as a stretcher bearer) and sickness. He rejoined his unit on 4 November and was killed just over 3 weeks later.

He is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, although the battle of Vimy Ridge took place 3 months after he was killed.³
