Camille Higgin was born ca. 1859 in New Orleans, USAG.² She and William Meredith were married on 12 Nov 1879 in St. John’s Church, Monkstown, DublinG.³ She died on 22 Jul 1929, at age ~70, in Toronto General HopitalG.² She was buried on 24 Jul 1929 in St. John’s Cemetery.²

Camille Higgin was born in New Orleans, USA. She was living at 16 Tivoli Terrace E., Kingstown at the time of her marriage; an indenture made later that year refers to her as being from Liverpool, England, which was presumably her prior address in 1879. The 1911 census records her as being 50 years old and born in the USA; two of her three children were still living at that time. In August 1915 Camille was listed as the next of kin for her son, Herbert, on his enlistment in the Canadian armed forces. Her address then was 1 Grand Canal Quay, Dublin. She emigrated to Canada with her husband William in 1919.

Biography

Herbert Rice Baldwin Meredith was born on 6 May 1889 in Ballychristal, Geashill, Kings county, IrelandG.² He died on 1 Dec 1916, at age 27, in France.

He enlisted on the 26 Aug 1915 in Toronto, occupation given as Shipper. He joined the 13th Battalion as a Private with service no. 193334, and later the 92nd Battalion. He embarked from Canada on the ship Emperor of Britain on 20th June 1916, arriving in Britain 9 days later, and finally landed in France on 28 Aug 1916. According to his medical records, he was in hospital at Boulogne for 3 days from 25 Sept 1916 with a sprained ankle (sustained whilst acting as a stretcher bearer) and sickness. He rejoined his unit on 4 November and was killed just over 3 weeks later.

He is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, although the battle of Vimy Ridge took place 3 months after he was killed.³

Biography

Charles Warburton Meredith was born on 26 Jun 1840 in Bridge Villa House, Co. Kerry, Ireland. He and Kate Palmer were married on 15 Nov 1863 in Alverstoke, HampshireG. He and Sarah Florence Hardiman were married on 4 Feb 1895 in Methodist Church, Waterford. He died on 22 Oct 1911, at age 71, in County & City Infirmary, Waterford.²

He was given the middle name of Warburton in memory of his paternal grandmother. Unfortunately, this was transcribed as Willoughby on the copy of his 1863 marriage certificate registered with the General Registry Office, which has resulted in many family history trees on Ancestry incorrectly describing him in that way. His middle name is recorded correctly as Warburton in all the other instances where a middle name is given, including:
- the baptism records of his children in 1866, 1867, 1869, 1870, 1873;
- his 2nd marriage certificate in 1895;
- his death announcement in the Weekly Irish Times in 1911.

His death and funeral were reported in the 25 October 1911 edition of the Waterford Standard, transcribed as follows:
" Much regret is generally felt at the death of Mr Charles Mereditb, which sad event took place at the County and City infirmary on Sunday night. Deceased, who had attained the age of 71 years, was formerly in the employment of Messrs Davis, Strangman and Co., Ltd., and after a long and faithful service there he retired a couple of years ago. He resided with his daughter, Mrs Coad, at Blenheim. For some time past he was in failing health, and as there was no improvement in his condition, he was taken to the County and City Infirmary for treatment. He continued to sink, however, and passed away, as stated, on Sunday night. The late Mr Meredith was very much esteemed by all who knew him. He was a brother of Mr W E Mereditb, of Messrs Bassett and Mereditb, The Quay, and for him and the other members of the family the greatest sympathy is felt.
The funeral of the late Mr Meredith took place yesterday, the remains being conveyed from the County and City Infirmary for interment In John's Hill Cemetery. The chief mourners were - Messrs J C Mereditb, Cork (son), WE Meredith (brother) W E Meredith, L D S; C R Meredith, E V Meredith and R H Meredith (nephews), R Coad (son-in-law), Masters B and R Coad (grandsons).
The cortege was a large and representative one. The staff at the brewery, where the deceased was employed for about 24 years, was represented by Messrs S Strangman, E A Gibbon, H J Roberts, F C Cobbe, and F J G Greene. Others present at the funeral were - The Very Rev the Dean of Waterford, Rev Linehan, Rev Richard Little, Rev A W McFarlane, Messrs G W Bassett, W S Thompson, J S Thompson, W Newnham, F A Millon (Dublin), W Kent, W Brabazon, Josepb Tbompson, A W Torrie, P Whalley, T W Fudger, H G Harris, Wm Robertson, - Patterson, - Irwin, - Agnew, etc.
The remains were conveyed from the hearse to the grave, where the Burial Service was conducted by the Rev R Little and Rev J Linehan. The opening sentences were read by the latter, and at the graveside the 90th Psalm was read by the Rev R Little. An address was then given by the Rev Mr Linehan, and the committal prayers followed, the remains being reverently laid in their last resting place. By special request there were no flowers."
