2,3 Charles Meredith was a farmer at Ballyburly, Coolville, King’s County, Ireland. The contents of the house and farm were sold at public auction in 1872.
In 1886, the year of his death, he brought a court action against his son Charles William Rice that was described in Freeman’s Journal as follows:
“MEREDITH v. MEREDITH.—This was an action brought by Charles Meredith, of Glasnevin, against Charles Rice Meredith, his son, to recover possession of a horse called " Wildfire," or its value, and also to recover the price of another horse named " Bob." Plaintiff alleged that he had given the two horses to the defendant to sell for him, that one of the horses, Bob, was sold almost immediately afterwards, and that Wildfire was sold after being steeplechased for two years by the defendant for £65. The defendant contended that Wildfire had been given to him by the plaintiff as a gift, and he pleaded that in the event of the jury arriving at a different opinion on that point that he was entitled to £100 for two years' keep of the horse. He accordingly filed a counter claim for that amount. The jury found for the plaintiff £65, the amount for which Wild- fire had been sold, and allowed the defendant £10 on foot of his counter-claim ; and they estimated the value of the horse Bob at £10, and for that sum they also found in favour of the plaintiff. Counsel for plaintiff—Mr. Sergeant O'Brien and Mr. Mclnerney (instructed by Mr. Robinson). For defendant—-Messrs McLaughlin, Q C, and Eiffe (instructed by Mr. Vance.)”
His Will was proved on 22 Jun 1886 by William Wynne Carruthers, solicitor, sole Executor. His estate was valued at £424 15s.
