Charles William Rice Meredith was born ca. 1861. He and Bridget Hyenan were married on 9 Nov 1883 in Registry Office, Dublin North Registration District.2 He and Mary Aloysius Sinnott were married on 9 Mar 1886 in Dublin Roman Catholic CathedralG.1 He and Elizabeth Hughes were married on 5 Sep 1906 in R.C. Church of Aughrim Street, DublinG.3 He died on 9 Mar 1916, at age ~55, in Royal City of Dublin HospitalG.4
Charles William Rice Meredith was a Horse Dealer. He was living in Glasnevin, Co. Dublin in 1886 and at 19 Goldsmith St., Dublin in 1916. He was enumerated in the 1901 Ireland census at 13 Montpelier Hill, Dublin, and described as Charles Meredith, head of family, aged 35, Horse Dealer, Roman Catholic, widower, born in King’s County. In the same household were his sons Charles (aged 12) and Mathew (aged 6), his deceased wife’s sister Ellen Sinnott, a servant Mary Bryan and a groom Henry Readmund. He was enumerated in the 1911 census at Russell Avenue, Drumcondra, in the household of his brother in law James Hughes.
Charles William Rice Meredith was knocked down by a tram car in Waterloo Road, Dublin on 8 March 1916 and died in hospital a day later from compression of the brain and probable fracture of the skull.

He is assumed to be the Charles William Rice Meredith who married Bridget Dowling nee Hyenan in 1883, although the certificate describes him as a Gentleman with father George Meredith, a farmer. He was described as a Horse Dealer’s child on the death certificate of their daughter Irene Mary.5,6,4,7

Elizabeth Hughes was born ca. 1880. She and Charles William Rice Meredith were married on 5 Sep 1906 in R.C. Church of Aughrim Street, DublinG.1 She died on 21 Mar 1915, at age ~35, in Hardwicke Hospital, Dublin.1,2
Elizabeth was the daughter of James Hughes and his first wife Elizabeth nee Doyle. Her grandfather was a small tenant farmer from Balymacwilliam, Rhode, near Edenderry. Her father was a baker, who worked in Kennedy’s bakery in Dublin, while her mother’s family owned the “Hole in the Wall” pub near Phoenix Park. Her brother James, known as Seamus Hughes, was in the Gaelic League, the trade union movement and the Irish Volunteers; he fought at Jacob's factory in 1916, for which he was imprisoned in England. He became the first announcer on Irish radio, and later was the Assistant-Director of Radio Éireann.

After Elizabeth's death in 1915 and her husband’s in 1916, her brother Seamus Hughes cared for his two nieces and nephews in his house at Glenageary. He set up his nephew Percy Meredith with a milk run from there, renovating the stables and providing pasture in the 6 acres for a few cows and the necessary horses.3
